Our Story
BrideLaura grew up in Sunnyvale, CA where she graduated from Homestead High School. She attended Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, CA, graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Animal Science. Laura is continuing her education by attending Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, CA to become a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. She hopes to pursue a career in large animal medicine. |
GroomPaul spent some of his childhood growing up in Oregon before his family moved back to California and into San Luis Obispo. He graduated from San Luis Obispo High School before attending Cal Poly and finishing a Bachelors of Science degree in Computer Science. Paul is currently living in Grover Beach, CA and working in San Luis Obispo. |
How we met
Paul and Laura met helping at a triathlon for Tri-California in the fall of 2002. They'd bump into each other occasionally at other Tri-Cal events, but normally nothing more than "Hi, how are you". During the summer on 2003 at the Tri-Cal lake float party, they started talking some more. Their first date was to see Tracy Byrd at the Mid-State fair.
The Proposal
December 22, 2006, Paul had to pick Laura up from school in Pomona to take her home for Christmas after her stressful finals week. Once arriving in Grover Beach, Paul surprised her with a Christmas tree. He had to work hard to encourage Laura to decorate the tree that night (Paul: she was really tired from finals, I had to keep prodding her to help! I had plans after all!). As Laura put the last ornament on the tree, she turned around to find Paul on his knee and a ring in his hand….and of course, she said yes!
